Established in 1963 by an Act of Parliament (Act 204) and now superseded by Act 588 of 2000, GAEC has the mandate which includes the promotion, development and utilisation of the peaceful application of nuclear and biotechnological techniques and nuclear education for economic and socal advancement of
Ghana. In pursuance of these objectives the Commission has established Institutes and Centres which carry out appropriate research activities and human resource development. The Commission has total staff strength of 700 comprising research scientist, technical, administrative and supporting staff.Job Description
The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) Kwabenya announces that the post of Director-General of the Commission will become vacant on March 1, 2012.
The Position:
The Position:
- The Director-General is the Chief Executive of the GAEC and is responsible for the day-to-day administration as well as the Research and Educational functions of the Commission
- The Director-General is responsible for the implementation of the Commission's Strategic Plan and for initiating new directions in the Research and Development and Human Capacity Building activities of the Commission
- Relations with Government
- Relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- Relations with Atomic Energy Authorities of other countries
- Relations with other International Agencies;
- Relations with Research Institutions and Universities
- The appointment, which is full time, will be for five (5) years in the first instance and may be subject to renewal for a second term

Required Skills or Experience
The Position:
- Must be a citizen of Ghana
- Must have sound knowledge and experience in nuclear sciences and engineering
- Must be a Chief Research Scientist/Professor with knowledge in nuclear and allied sciences
- Must be a distinguished scholar with a capacity to motivate and direct staff
- Must possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills and a capacity to manage and control crisis situations
- Must be innovative, business-oriented and able to established rapport between the Commission and potential user agencies (such as Industry, Agriculture, and Health etc) for common purpose
- Must have the ability to attract research funding
- Must not be more than 55 years old
