(URC), in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium and Population Council. The project aims to reduce malaria morbidty and mortality nationwide with a focus on children under 5 and pregnant women. The programme provides support to the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) of Ghana

Job Description
Assignment Length: Six months renewable by mutual agreement and availability of funds
Starting Salary: Depending on qualification and experience

Functional relationships:
  • Works under the direction and supervision of the Chief of Party
  • Collaborates with other technical and programme ProMPT team members
Job Summary:
The  Case Management Training Specialist focuses on the improvement of performance of health workers malaria case management. The Case Management Training Specialist supports a range of activities including malaria training for the public and private sector; strengthening use of quality improvement approaches as well as supportive supervision. In addition,he/she plays an important role in working with the National malaria Control programme On home Management of Malaria in Pregnancy Specialist in order to coordinate training events with regional and district authorities as well as supervisory visits. He/she liaises with other technical staff member on ProMPT and interacts frequently with partners working promoting quality malaria case management
  • In coordination with other staff, in particular with, Malaria in Pregnancy Specialist, implement health worker training in quality malaria case management and IPTp
  • Promoting the use of indicators to monitor compliance with case management standards
  • Work with Malaria in Pregnancy Specialist to conduct and document post-training supportive supervision of trained health workers
  • Direct project activities that involve the private sector; such as training of licensed chemical sellers
  • Provide general, ad hoc technical support to the National Malaria Control Programme in malaria case management
  • Collaborate with USAID and other USAID-supported health partner organizations on case management, improvement of malaria related care service delivery, and home management of malaria activities and issues
  • Ensure that the monitoring data related to case management is collected and shared with the ProMPT's M&E team
  • Contribute to the project documentation and reporting
Required Skills or Experience
  • Medical degree and public health experience required. Malaria experience highly recommended
  • Minimum of five years experience working in public health programmes malaria case management at the national and community level in malaria or similar public health disease control effort
  • Knowledge of ACTs and their appropriate use highly desirable
  • Skills in curricula development and training methodologies
  • Knowledge of home management of malaria
  • Expertise in results reporting and narrative reporting writing Good diplomatic, representational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and with team members and partners at all levels
  • Capacity to manage numerous tasks and report in a timely manner
  • Experience with Ghana public and private health service as well as donor agencies Advanced use of computers including; Microsoft Office applications, especially word processing, graphics (PowerPoint), spreadsheets and data base functions
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Ghana
