Ghana Job Vacancy: Engineering Manager – Projects & Regional Engineering Technical Shared Services
Gold Fields Ghana  is seeking to employ an experienced and self motivated Engineering Manager – Projects & Regional Engineering Technical Shared Services (RETSS)

Purpose of the position:
-
The Engineering Manager – Projects & RETSS will report to the Head of Engineering – West Africa with primary focus being placed on:
  • The management and execution of all Gold Fields Ghana  Sustainable Capital ‘Brownfield’ Projects as approved by Regional Executive Committee (REXCO)
  • The management of the Regional Engineering Technical Shared Services Department (RETSS)
  • The development and implementation of strategic as well as operational engineering policies, standards and procedures to
Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide key technical management input into all Sustainable Capital Expense ‘Brownfields’ projects/plant enhancements to ensure full compliance with Gold Fields Mining Capital Improvement Framework
  • Provide the key project management link required between the regional operations and third party design consultants for all ‘Brownfields’ projects or in-house plant enhancements
  • Provide key guidance for all design reviews plus drawings and document checks
  • Actively participate in the selection of approved vendors and contractors
  • Provide technical input and guidance to address problem solving during project construction and commissioning
  • In support of all projects, provide diligent progress reporting, analysis, and recommendations, comprehensive data capture, all within the Gold Fields CIF
  • Ensure operational cost control and risk mitigating initiatives are managed within approved and set targets
  • Support the implementation of proactive maintenance strategies and programmes
  • Ensure that various engineering disciplines provided by contractors interact seamlessly and safely
  • Maintain high focus on employee development, succession planning and mentoring of engineering staff
  • Maintain a safe and friendly environment in ensuring that effective engineering standards and procedures are developed and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements
Job Requirements:
  • A tertiary qualification in the field of Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 10-15 years of work experience as Senior Manager/Engineering Manager
  • Minimum of 5 years project and contract management experience associated with medium/large Mine projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge, coupled with minimum of 10 years practical experience in the management of the engineering functions in the mining industry related to Gold Processing CIL and ensure optimal plant (Processing and Heavy Mining Plant and Equipment) availability cost, control, minimise operational risks and ensure the availability of critical parts and inventory analysis are in line with the strategic objective of the business
  • Effective liaison with Government agencies such as the Inspector of Machinery, ECG, VRA, GRIDCO etc for the achievements of the business objectives
  • The development, mentoring and coaching of the human resources within the department, placing focus on safety, risk management, the identification and elimination of plant (Heap Leach, CIL, HPGR and HME) constraints
Heap Leach plus large scale Surface Mining Plant and equipment:
  • Demonstrate understanding of good engineering practices and the implementation of proactive maintenance strategies
  • Possess working knowledge of Auto CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point and MS Project Scheduler, SAP Planned Maintenance
  • The ability to meet diverse engineering challenges within the broad scope of the engineering field pertaining to production orientated activities
  • Have tenacity and unquestionable integrity
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • A hands-on approach and be willing to work long hours to obtain the required results
  • Meet GFG medical fitness for the position and environment
It would be advantageous if applicant have:
  • Work experience within the mining industry in developing countries
  • Work experience in a remote locations and having resided in a camp environment
  • Training and development of nationals (locals) through sound principles of apprenticeship and junior engineering training programs
