Role Summary/Purpose:The Mining Application Engineer develops and supports close technical support relationships with key mining companies and EPC’s. The objective of this role is to have GE products specified by mining customers and EPC’s. This role will also support the broader Industrial portfolio in Africa.
Essential Responsibilities• Act as the engineering interface to the Mining team for technical support in relation to the Motors product lines.
• Identify opportunities for customers and EPC’s to specify individual products across Motors.
• Work in partnership with customers and distributors to develop this market.
• Build deep and supportive relationships with key industry EPC’s.
• Represent GE and the product at customer meetings, maintaining a high level of business acumen and commercial awareness.
• Represent the technical aspects of project scope and equipment capability to a potential customer.
• Provide technical guidance to Applications Engineering peers.
• Maintain product and technology knowledge.
• Maintain an awareness of international codes and standards.
• Support GE productivity and quality initiatives.
• Understand and communicate project requirements to effectively leverage GE products and services.
Qualifications/Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other relevant Engineering fields (extensive field service experience can be a substitute for these qualifications).
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the Mining industry.
Desired Characteristics• Strong background in GE products and services (preferred).
• Knowledgeable in the GE Motors portfolio (preferred).
• Ability to execute and influence in a matrixed organizational structure.
• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), well-established organizational and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction.
• Ability to communicate with all internal business levels and all levels of external customers.
• Team player and self-starter with demonstrated problem solving and organization networking capabilities and the ability to operate without detailed work direction.
• Advanced engineering degree.
• Master Black Belt (GE employees only)
